There is no use trying to deny it. Bed bugs are here and they continue to increase numbers. These pests that were once nearly eradicated here in the United States have made an incredible resurgence in the past decade or so. There are many reasons for this comeback of the century, but does that really matter at this point? The real issue is what to do about it. One of the best tools that we have in our fight against bed bugs is education. The more you know about the habits and habitats of these elusive pests, the more likely you are to avoid contact with them. When you do come in contact with bed bugs, knowing how to quickly eliminate them will save you a ton of stress and will keep you from unintentionally spreading them to others.

One of the more obvious signs that bed bugs leave are their bites. However, bed bug bites can easily be overlooked. This is because they often will resemble the bite of a mosquito but if you look closely, you will be able to tell them apart. While they both will produce red, itchy, raised welts, it is important to note that mosquito bites typically appear as singular, spaced out wounds while bed bug bites will appear in groups or clusters or in a linear pattern.  Another sign you may notice is the appearance of small blood stains on sheets, pillow cases, and mattresses. Finding black streaks coming from electrical outlets and shed casings on or near your bed, couch, and other furniture can indicate bed bug presence as well.

Another important detail about bed bugs that is a must to know is that they do not just live in and around beds. Not only can they be found in television sets, computers, and luggage but they can also be found in any room in your home. They do not just contain themselves to hotels and motels, either. They can be found anywhere that people can be found. Libraries, department stores, hospitals, and schools can all house bed bugs. They can be found in trains, taxis, planes, and boats as well. There is no place sacred when it comes to bed bugs.
